Sunday Stills "One Tree"

This tree is along a county road that runs thru one of our pastures. The past past three years have not been kind to the tree. Two rough winters in a row had the porcupines chewing on it in several places. This past year has been one of drought. Hopefully, the snows we have been receiving will keep coming and bring spring rains. The tree actually sits in a shallow ditch that runs along the road. This does give it an advantage when there is moisture since it tends to collect in the ditch and waters the tree. In southwestern North Dakota, we have lots of wind and this has battered the tree this past year. The cows and calves like to use it for shade of course.

Some days I kind of feel like that tree.

Yes, it does look battered. It's too bad for the tree, but the branch lying on the ground does add to the desolation. Looks really cold!

Great stark photo, but you can tell this tree is bursting with promise. Kind of sums up our lives, battered, beautiful and waiting for the sun to shine!
